Our 8-Session Football Development Program in Houston

Most kids don't get better because they run more drills. They get better when the drills actually match the position they play, run at game speed, and build on each other week to week. That's the whole idea behind this football development program in Houston. Eight sessions, a clear plan, and real numbers so you know it's working.

I'm Coach David Smith. I played arena football at the pro level and won an AIFA championship in 2010. Now I train receivers, defensive backs, and running backs here in Houston, mostly high school athletes with the drive to earn a bigger role.

Who this program is built for

This is written for high school WR, DB, and RB players. If you catch, cover, or carry the ball, the work is aimed straight at you.

I also take select youth and next-level athletes by arrangement, but the eight-session plan is dialed in for high school players first.

How the eight weeks actually go

Every session is position-specific and run at game speed. You won't stand around. Here's the flow.

Sessions 1 and 2: Baseline and fundamentals

We start by testing where you're at. Movement, footwork, and a few position-specific reps I can time and grade. Then we clean up the basics. Stance, first step, and the small habits that show up on every play.

Sessions 3 and 4: Technique under load

Now we add speed and reps. Receivers work releases and top-of-route control. DBs drill transitions and breaking on the ball. Backs sharpen cuts and pad level. You'll be tired. That's the point.

Sessions 5 and 6: Reading and reacting

Football isn't done on a script. These sessions add live reactions: reading a defender, adjusting a route, breaking on a throw. We slow nothing down, so you learn to think fast while moving fast.

Sessions 7 and 8: Putting it together and retesting

The last two sessions combine everything into game-like reps. Then we retest the same drills from week one so you can see the difference in plain numbers.

How we measure your progress

I don't want you guessing whether the work paid off. From day one we track a few honest markers and revisit them at the end.

  1. Timed footwork and change-of-direction drills.
  2. Position-specific reps graded for technique, not just effort.
  3. Consistency, meaning how often you hit the standard, not just once.

You'll get a clear before-and-after. If a number didn't move, we talk about why and what to keep working.

Progress you can see keeps you motivated. That's why we test at the start and again at the end, on the same drills.

Private or group, your call

The eight-session program runs as 1-on-1 private training or as group training with three or more athletes. Private gets you every rep and every correction. Group brings competition and a little more energy in the room. Both follow the same eight-week structure.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the 8-session program take to finish?

Most athletes run it over about four to eight weeks, usually one to two sessions a week. We'll set a schedule that fits your season and your other commitments.

Can I do the program with a group of teammates?

Yes. It runs as private 1-on-1 training or as group training with three or more athletes. Both follow the same eight-session structure.

What positions do you train?

Wide receivers, defensive backs, and running backs. Every session is built around the specific skills those positions use in a game.

Do you work with youth players or older athletes?

The program is built mainly for high school players, but I take select youth and next-level athletes by arrangement. Reach out and we'll talk about fit.

How will I know if I'm actually improving?

We test timed drills and position-specific reps at the start, then retest the same drills at the end. You get a clear before-and-after so the progress isn't a guess.
